    Best of Adirondack Park

Our family lives, works and vacations within the Adirondack Park going back many generations.
The Park encompasses over 6-million-acres in Northern New York State, larger than Yellowstone and Yosemite combined. Within the Park New York State owns the 2.5 million Adirondack Forest Preserve that remains "forever wild". Rugged mountains, rivers, streams, lakes and ponds provide a perfect landscape for all types of outdoor activities.  Music facilities, museums, and historic sites provide cultural activities for the whole family.

Driving north on Route 87, The Northway, after exiting the New York State Thruway at Albany, Lake George is the gateway to the Park.

Included below are some of the best places to visit to learn and experience the Adirondack Park.

Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake

Participate in the interactive "Great Outdoors" exhibit trying out different backpacks, snowshoes, and fishing rods, or in the virtual reality rides: flying in a helicopter over the high peaks, rafting Hudson River white water, and bobsledding down the Olympic track.

For over fifty years, the Adirondack Museum is renowned for the breadth of its collections that include historic artifacts, boats, fire tower, photographs, archival materials, and fine art documenting the Adirondack region's past. Twenty-two exhibit spaces and galleries tell the stories of the men and women who have lived, worked and played in the largest wilderness area east of the Mississippi River.

Bring a picnic lunch or eat in the cafe to enjoy the view -- the museum's setting, overlooking the lovely Blue Mountain Lake, is spectacular.
